The National Council of Industrial Meteorologists (NCIM), founded in 1968, is a non-profit, professional association of meteorologists, principally engaged in the private practice of industrial and applied meteorological consulting. NCIM members represent many areas of professional specialization, including forensic meteorology, operational weather forecasting, air quality and environmental consulting, the collection or dissemination of meteorological data and weather resources management.
Individual NCIM Consultant (and Retired Consultant) members possess the Certified Consulting Meteorologist designation of the American Meteorological Society, or an equivalent certification approved by the Council. Consultant Members are expected to maintain a high level of technical proficiency in their field of specialization, and to represent the profession, through the clients they serve, in an ongoing ethical manner. Associate Members, including current students or recent graduates, or university, government and private sector employees, are on a career track directed toward eventual Consultant Member status. Affiliate Members are not required to qualify as Consultant or Associate Members, but are expected to be engaged in professional activities which constructively intersect with the activities of the climate and weather enterprise, and whose membership in the NCIM would be of mutual benefit to both.
